Dear Members and Friends of the 10th Republican District of Georgia

State Convention in Savannah.
The 10th District was very well represented at the State Republican Party Convention last weekend at Savannah.
Quite a few updates concerning this convention are now up and running on the Home page of our web site at www.gagop10.org. Read more about the convention from Chairman Judy Grammer. .. . .

View our special Convention photo page which is now posted on our web site.

New Rules of the Georgia Republican Party.  Read the  new rules as amended at the 2005 State Convention.  Also, read the summary of the rules changes on the GA GOP web site.  These changes brought on a huge amount of debate from the floor of the convention.

Resolutions passed at the State Convention.

We are especially proud to report that our own Doug Grammer of Walker County was elected Chairman of the Georgia Young Republicans on Saturday night at their State Convention in Savannah. Read more.

If you missed this convention, the Governor's Banquet, the Legislative Breakfast, the blockbuster keynote speech from Florida Governor Jeb Bush and the parties, you really missed a treat.

Governor Signs Bills into Law
After a very productive 2005 session of the Georgia Legislature, Governor Perdue has been very busy during the past few weeks signing a record breaking number of conservative bills. In the upper right column of the Home Page, you will find much on this topic with links to newspaper articles and the Governor's web site. He really kept everyone hanging right up until May 10 on a few of these. He ended up vetoing 15 bills. Many thanks to all of our Republicans in both houses and to our great Governor for pushing through much needed conservative pieces of legislation.  Read a list of major bills passed and signed which include: The Women's Right to Know, Joshua's Law, Smoking Ban, Ethics Reform, Virtual High School, Master Teacher's Bill, Aid to Tourism, Meth Bill, Anti-Spam Bill, etc.

More Action Under the Gold Dome 2005
If you have not already done so, take a look at our Gold Dome page which is quite long and is an almost daily update of major action during the 2005 session complete with many photos of our elected guys and gals at work. Oh how sweet it is to be the MAJORITY!  Many thanks to all of our 10th District Republican Senators and Representatives and our Republican Governor.  GREAT JOB!

District Convention in Ellijay
In case you missed it, take a look at the photo page of the District Convention on April 2 in Ellijay. The weather was terrible, but the convention and banquet was GREAT. Read Chairman Judy Grammer's report on this one.  Read Congressman Deal's best speech ever which really brought the house down.

Fair Tax
If you have not already done so, please take a look at information from Rep. John Linder's Town hall Meeting where he is pushing the Fair Tax Bill. In our opinion this is a much needed piece of legislation. WSB radio talk host Neal Boortz has written a book with John Linder which explains this bill in depth. Neal says that the book is at the publisher and will be out soon. The more we read about this bill, the more we support it.

Can you believe that 12 of our 15 counties in the 10th District now have their own web sites -- and Gilmer County has one on the way!  This is wonderful. We have come a long way in this area of communication since 2003!   Below are the links to these county sites:

Rev./Sen. J.L. Black is in the hospital

This is a message to all friends of Rev./Sen. J.L. Black to notify them  that he had a couple of heart attacks this week and is in Parkridge Hospital in Chattanooga. He is recovering after having two stints put in. His wife, Delma Lee, said that the doctor and nurses report that he is doing well and should be moved from ICU to a room sometime today. J.L. had bypass surgery a few years ago. I know how good a friend, colleague, and comrade in arms that he has been and is to me personally, and to everyone that will receive this message.

I know we all are praying for him and Delma Lee and we will be happy to see his irascible old self back in the saddle again soon, both in Republican politics and the American Legion. His home address is 11994 Scenic Hwy. Lookout Mt., GA 30750 and home phone # is 706-820-1773.

When he is feeling better, let's let him know how much we appreciate him and value his friendship and counsel.
