4 1. Chairman’s Corner - December 2007
December 10, 2007
In less than one month, the primary and caucus season will finally arrive! The next year is a critical time in the life of our nation. More quickly than imaginable, voters will begin to formulate opinions on the candidates and the direction that our country will be taking for the next four years.During the last eight months, the leadership team of the 9th District Republican Party has worked with each individual county to prepare for the 2008 election cycle. While attention tends to focus on Presidential politics, the Executive Committee of the 9th District GOP understands that the battle for the direction of our country begins not in Washington D.C. but in each person throughout North Georgia.
In 2008, the counties that make up the Ninth Congressional District of Georgia will experience the strongest Republican ticket that has ever been presented to its voters. There have been unprecedented efforts to ensure strong candidates for sheriff, school board, commission board, clerk of court, tax commissioner, surveyor, and coroner. At the state level, it is critical to increase our legislative majority by one to ensure that EVERY state house and state senate member from our area is a Republican.
Before 2008 rolls around, however, let’s take a moment to enjoy the time we have with family and our individual communities. From our family to yours, we wish you a very Merry Christmas. May the peace and love of the holiday season surround each of you with His love and grace.

42. Steps to Serving in the GA GOP -- Conventions 2008Linda Herren, our GA National Committeewoman, and I recently finished the new version of Steps to Serving in the GA GOP -- Conventions 2008.
Since 2008 is a Presidential election year, the Precinct Caucus, County, District and State Convention will be different from the other years. Please take a look at this new Steps page below, forward to your members, Republican friends and print out to distribute if you wish. These pages have proven very helpful to county chairs, district officers and delegates in the past. Please urge your people to attend the Precinct Caucus in your county on February 16 so they will be eligible to then attend the County, District and State Conventions. Additional information is available at the GA GOP web site on their Events Calendar page. This includes the official Call and Convention Planning Manual.

Linda is emphasizing the importance of doing the conventions by the book in 2008. If we foul up even on the precinct level, the entire GA delegation at the National Convention could be sent home. All states are under the microscope by whoever will be candidates #2 and #3 come convention time. We could have a real floor fight at the GOP National in Minneapolis in September 2008. Usually, the candidate is pretty well cut and dried before we get to the National Convention; however, next year could be quite different.
