Due to so many people being on vacation, the Gilmer Republican Party will not have their regularly scheduled meeting on the first Tuesday of July. Our meetings will resume in August on the first Tuesday at the Courthouse Assembly Room. Have a safe and happy Fourth of July holiday. We will have two cars in the annual Fourth of July parade, courtesy of J.C. Sanford.

Don’t forget our Republican Candidate forum on Tuesday, June 3rd, at the Bobcat’s Den. Reception starts at 7:00 with the forum starting at 8:00. Bob Becker , Social Studies Dept. Chair at GHS will be our moderator. This will be an orderly forum, with questions being written on forms when attendants arrive, and asked by the moderator. There will be no questions asked from the floor. One of the sheriff department’s deputies will act as sgt. of arms. Looking forward to seeing you all at a very important and informative event.

Congratulations Gilmer Republicans
We qualified 19 candidates this past week to compete in various races for public office in this July’s primary. We were unable to get the following information in the Times-Courier, but THIS COMING TUESDAY , ( MAY 6th) at the courthouse, at 7:00, at our regularly scheduled meeting, we will give each candidate a few minutes to tell his/her name, what office they are running for, and why they are running for that office.

This presentation will be the first item on the agenda for the Commissioner's meeting that begins at 5:00. Fellow Republicans:
On Super Tuesday in Gilmer County 45.49 % of our "active" registered voters went to the polls. The General Election is coming up November 4th and I encourage you all to get out and support the candidate of your choice.
Gilmer County will be holding its Precinct/County Convention on Saturday, March 15th ,to select delegates to the district and state conventions. Please be there at 9:00 am sharp , in order to take part in the voting at the convention. We will have the convention at the Gilmer County Courthouse, second floor, Jury Assembly room.
Mary Jones is chairing the nominating committee this year. If you are interested in becoming a delegate or an alternate to either the district or state conventions, please contact Mary via email at joneswmkj@ellijay.com before March 15th. A alternate serves in the event that the delegate is unable to.
The 9th District Republican Party Convention will be held April 18 and 19th in Cleveland Ga,. A banquet will be held April 18th, with the convention itself being held at White County high school the next day.
The State Republican Party Convention will be held in Columbus , Georgia on May 16th and 17th at the Columbus Civic Center. The convention itself will be on the 17th. Keynote speakers for both conventions will be announced at a later time.
Registration fee for the district convention is usually $25, for the state, usually $100/
Gilmer County is allowed 11 delegates ( and 11 alternates) at the District Convention, and 8 delegates ( and 8 delegates) at the State Convention.
Also, qualifying for county, state, and federal election positions will occur April 28-May 2. Primary elections will be held July 15th. Rita Odom and I will be traveling to Macon this week-end for a work-shop involving the process of qualifying candidates.
