General Assembly returns to session

The Georgia General Assembly returned to session today.  In the Senate, Eric Johnson was reelected as President Pro Tempore as 34 Republican Senators were sworn-in.

In the House, Glenn Richardson was elected the first Republican Speaker of the House since Reconstruction, receiving 117 votes, including the vote of 19 Democrats.

For the first time in over 130 years, Republicans lead in both chambers of the General Assembly.  Together, we are ushering in a New Georgia, one with open, honest government.  And, our central goals remain the same as always: improve education, create jobs, and improve the quality of life for all Georgians.
