Rep. Jack Murphy Announces Campaign for State Senate

Representative Jack Murphy announced today that he will seek the Republican nomination for State Senate District 27, covering most of Forsyth County and the northern portion of Cherokee County.

Representative Jack Murphy, serving his second term in the State House, is a highly respected member of the new Republican majority.  He currently serves as the Vice-Chairman of the Public Utilities and Telecommunications Committee, and as a member of the Banks and Banking and Motor Vehicles Committees.  Rep. Murphy also serves on the powerful Appropriations Committee and its critical Fiscal Affairs and Judicial Oversight Subcommittees.

Said Murphy, “It has been one of the great honors of my life to represent in the State House my friends and neighbors in Forsyth and Cherokee counties.  With the announcement by Senator Bill Stephens that he is seeking the Secretary of State’s office, many people have contacted me to encourage me to run for the State Senate.  I am honored by their confidence and support.”

“For the last four years in the state legislature, I have been fighting for common sense, conservative policies to help reignite our state’s economy, to expand educational opportunity for our children, and to empower our families and our communities.  In this new Republican State Senate, the people of Forsyth and Cherokee counties need experienced leadership that can deliver on the issues that matter most.  With my life experience and experience at the Capitol, I believe I am the best candidate to provide that kind of effective leadership.  That is why I am running for the State Senate.”

A veteran of the US Air Force, Murphy is the President & CEO of Lanier Athletic Center in Forsyth.  He also serves on the Board of Directors of Integrity Bank.  Jack Murphy is the former Chair of the Cumming/Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce and the past President of the South Forsyth Rotary Club.  In 1995, he was named Forsyth County Business Person of the Year.

Jack is happily married to Wendy Murphy and the proud parent of six children and eleven grandchildren.  Jack and Wendy attend the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit in Cumming.
