LOCAL GOP TO HOST CELEBRATION GALA
Buoyed by sweeping victories on the federal, state and
local levels, the Pickens County Republicans announce they will
hold a victory celebration on Thursday, November 18th at the
Jasper Family Steak House from 6:30 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. A limited
number of reservations are available for the celebration. The
evening will be relaxed and include a sit-down dinner with a
varied menu. Reservations are $10.00 per person. For more
information and reservation availability, please call Mary Ellen
Childree at 706-692-5716.
Kevin Osborne, local GOP Chairman said, "This has been
an excellent election cycle for the Grand Old Party at every level.
On the national level, President Bush is the first President in 16
years to win a majority of the votes cast. This is the first time
Georgia will have two Republican U.S. Senators as well as hold
the Governor's office and a majority in both chambers of the
state legislature. Locally, all but two county offices are filled
by Republicans".
Mary Ellen Childree, who spearheaded the local "Get Out
the Vote" effort said, "I am glad I live in a community where 77%
of Republicans, Democrats and Independents exercise their
inalienable right to vote. Our efforts were rewarding as all Rep-
ublican candidates who faced challenges won by convincing
margins in Pickens County. President Bush, U.S. Senator-elect
Johnny Isakson and PSC Commissioner Bobby Baker all
garnered 76% of the votes cast. These results out-paced state
results by just fewer than 20%. Locally, State Senator-elect
Chip Pearson posted an impressive 74% to 26% victory and
Clerk of Superior Court-elect Gail Brown was able to mobilize
her broad-based support to sweep into office by a near 2-1
margin".
Osborne joined Childree in congratulating all the local
candidates who were elected without opposition and thanking
the volunteers who made thousands of phone calls, put up yard
signs and completed all the necessary jobs that make a
campaign successful. Anybody who would like to participate
in grass roots Republican efforts can call Kevin at 706-253-7107,
