4Dawson County

by Chairman Chuck Gordon

Big GOP Victory

November 2nd was a historical election night for our county, the State of Georgia, and for the President of the United States. Our county had a record voter turnout of 80%. We believe that this is the largest percentage turnout for all counties in Georgia. We gave George Bush and Johnny Isakson a 80% margin of the votes cast in these races. We elected a full slate of Republican candidates in all of our Dawson County races. I believe we can truly say that Dawson County is a Republican stronghold which we must continue to work to keep it that way. We found out that the new voters that have registered since the 2000 Presidential election were predominately Republicans. This gives us a great opportunity to bring these people into our Party membership.

The Republican Party won the majority in the State House. With the House and Senate and the Governor's office, we can make great things to happen for the citizens of Georgia. I believe you will see some more Democrats become Republicans now that we are in the majority.

WHAT A GREAT DAY TO BE REPUBLICAN
Now comes the hard part, we must govern with the principals
of our party in mind. I know pay back may be sweet but we
must do it with compassion and rise above the past actions
of those in the other party. Let us strive to unite, let them
continue to divide if the so choose. --

Victory

First, I want to congratulate all the winning candidates and all of your who put in the time and effort to make this a truly historic victory for the Republican party and it's principles. Its a great time for our country, with a strong president full of conviction and determination.

The people have given us the chance to show the superiority of our values and ideas, and that is a great trust to behold. But just as they have given us the reigns of government, in 2 or 4 years they can quickly strip it away from us. We have a choice as a party in how to use our victory, we can stroke our own ego's and become lazy, we can fan the flames of petty partisan politics, we can forget the reasoning behind our mandate. Its our duty, as the foot soldiers of the party to carry forward with our conservative principles of liberty, freedom, individual rights and responsibilities. We must hold the feet of our elected officials, from President to local commissioners and council members to the fire, making sure they do not drift from these ideals.

It is time to celebrate, but we must also know when its time to get down to the hard work ahead of us. We can't afford to let our guard down, the Dems are hurt, but not beaten, they lie in wait for us to slip up, and American simply cannot afford for us to fail. Twenty years ago Saturday Ronald Reagan received a historic sign of approval from the American people, and now its is time for us to continue his legacy of optimistic faith in the American people and in their freedom.
